Why Are We Here?

Is there a purpose for our existence?

If so, what is that purpose?

All things on earth and in the universe must have a purpose for being. Have you ever considered what that purpose is? Have you ever considered that there might be a great designer, a great creator, whom you can’t see, that planned everything in the entire universe, including you, me and all other living things? And then followed through on those plans by creating life and things for a specific purpose? Doesn’t the vastness of the universe and the complexity of even the smallest bit of nature suggest to you that much design and planning took place to assure that everything would work and not fall apart?

So, what could that purpose be, and more specifically, what is the purpose of you, me and other human beings for existing? If indeed there is this great designer and creator, he must have had a reason for causing us to be brought into existence. If so, it would be well to understand what that reason is.

I believe that there is a being, whom we call God, who exists in eternity. I believe that God exists as a family of more than one. I believe that God, somewhere back in the early parts of eternity desired to increase His family, so He formulated a plan to accomplish this. First He created a universe, including earth, and used earth to begin creating beings that would someday be His family, the family of God.

In our limited comprehension of time and space, we cannot comprehend eternity or infinity. Yet our time on earth is incredibly short, compared to eternity, or even compared to the age of the earth.

Back to the original question; why are we here? We are here to prepare to become members of the family of God. It’s that simple. How can this be; how can we prepare ourselves for this eternal family? We cannot do it by ourselves; God has given us the tools whereby we can be assured that we will not miss out on this great opportunity.

I believe that God has inspired the writing of a handbook, an owner’s manual, which we call the Holy Bible, or the Holy Book in our language. In this book we find that God has explained all we need to know at this time about how to become part of His family. In this book we find how God created man from the dust of the earth and by His own breath caused man to become a living soul. This book explains how God gave man free will, and that if he follows God’s Will, then he could live forever. It also explains how man chose to not always follow God’s way, thereby becoming ineligible for eternal life. God so loved this creation, man, that He had a plan to save him from his own ways, which lead to eternal death.

This plan involved sending someone to redeem man from destruction. The only one qualified for such a task was one who was already a member of God’s family, the very creator Himself.. He was called the Word of God from eternity. He gave up His divine status to become a man for a while, experiencing all the trials, temptations, as well as the enjoyable things of mankind. He taught about the destiny of man as members of God’s planned kingdom. He never gave into temptation, therefore qualifying to be the redeemer of mankind. This God who became man we call Jesus the Christ or Messiah. Jesus taught that if we believe in Him and follow His teachings, we too will become like him and live forever. This Jesus died from His physical existence. The Father God resurrected Him to a new spiritual existence, where He resides again as a member of the family of God.

Although no human being lives a perfect life, we are assured that we have been redeemed by Jesus Christ, if we accept him and try to follow His teachings. The Bible teaches that it is God’s wish that no man perish but for all to have eternal life in His kingdom.

All of mankind, even those who have never even heard of God or Jesus Christ, will have this opportunity. For some of us this time of opportunity is now; for the vast majority of mankind it will come at a later time, but everyone will have the opportunity.

Why are you here?

To become a member of the FAMILY OF GOD.
